  • Black & Decker BDCDMT112 Review

The latest addition to the Black and Decker family of cordless power tools is the Black & Decker BDCDMT112 Matrix 12-Volt Lithium Drill , we think it will create quite a buzz when it is launched on the 1 st November 2012 just in time for the christmas market. What’s so different with this model from any other out there, well it is a multi function power tool featuring a Matrix Quick Connect System that allows for the user to interchange different tool heads with one hand while only using 1 tool base for the lot pretty cool and money saving.

Before we go on we must point out that this is a 12 volt model and aimed at the DIY enthusiaste and not really for the pro user. If you are wanting a more powerful model then book mark our site s Black and Decker are launching a 20 volt version any time now and we will be reviewing this as soon as we can.

While a 12 volt battery might not seem much they have used the Lithium batteries on the BDCDMT112 which is a good choice as this type of battery are liked by users as they retain charge up to 18 months even when the drill is not used,so you should allways have power whenever you come to use the drill.

So what attachments will you be able to add to the tool, well for starters there is a sander this can be used for finishing sanding and polishing of materials, they have incorperated what they call hook and loop sanding paper fixing which makes changing the sanding sheets easy as you may know some models are a nightmare to change the paper. It has the variable speed change as you expect and need with a sander.

Next up we have the router attachment, now I really like this addition ok you are not going to be able to do large moulding jobs with it but it is a perfect little router for doing those edging and routing out for door hinges where if you have a larger router like me can be over kill on these jobs.Quick Adjust button that allows for quick depth adjustment up to 1″ Spindle lock button allows for single-wrench bit changes Variable Speed allows for precision performance thats right for each job so quite a usefull attachment.

Moving on the next up is the Oscillating saw, a useful saw for cutting dry wall and electrical socket instalation, with this you should not be stuck when it comes to cutting different materials as a quick blade change means you can be cutting metal, wood and plastics in seconds. Comes with variable speed which is a must as different materials require different speeds for getting the best cutting results.

What every tool box needs is a jig saw, this has a nice feature for the blade change as it is tool free, now if you already own a jig saw you will know it can be a bind changing the blades using the normal allen key or screwdriver as they are never in a place that is easy to get at. Another nice touch is that it will accept both U and T shank blades, this is a nice touch as most jig saws only accept one or the other, a chance to use up yhose old blades from different models you have had in the past.

Last but not least is the trim saw, a nice handy addition for cutting plywood sheets fencing boards and panelling. Lightweight, compact design for comfort and control Spindle lock button that allows for single-wrench bit changes RPM (12v Max = 0-2600, 20v Max = 0-3400 and AC 4A = 0-2800). The good thing with having a cordless saw is you don’t have to be worrying were the power cable is and hoping you don’t cut through the darn thing.
